Laboratory & Hood Exhaust
Air Monitor’s airflow measurement systems provide real-time, actionable information required for the safe, code-compliant, and efficient operation of laboratory exhaust and commercial hood exhaust systems. We offer a wide variety of airflow measurement stations, probes, and transmitters for accurate measurement of laboratory exhaust ducts and commercial kitchen ventilation systems.Air Monitor Solutions Can Help
Accurately Measure Dirty, Hazardous Air
One challenge of measuring hood exhaust is chemical compatibility. Our Type 316-SS all-welded measurement probes ensure the sensors are robust and durable, while our individual two-tube design permits high pressure, full volume purge for an effective cleaning for dirty air applications.Maintain Accurate Measurements in Tight Ducts
Air Monitor’s technology permits accurate measurement of the airflow rate in highly turbulent flow locations (with directional yaw and pitch varying up to 30º from the duct's longitudinal axis) without the need for upstream air straightening means.Ensure Safety of Operators in Real Time
Air Monitor’s VOLU-Probe/SS, along with our VELTRON DP series of transmitters, allow laboratory exhaust air flow to be monitored in real-time via transmitter display to ensure the proper exhaust is in place to remove hazardous gases from the area.FAN-E Pitot Airflow Measurement Traverse Station
The FAN-Evaluator airflow measuring station contains multiple total and static pressure precision sensors along with an integral air straightening honeycomb cell. It’s capable of continuously measuring fan discharges or ducted airflow with a certified accuracy of ±2% when tested according to AMCA Standard 610.
VELTRON III Transmitter
The VELTRON III Pressure & Airflow Transmitter is a multi-functional, dual-channel transmitter specifically designed for HVAC airflow measurement applications. The flexible design can be combined with any differential or static pressure measurement probes, stations, piezo rings, or traverse-style fan inlet probes.
Typical applications include supply ducted airflow, return ducted airflow, and room and space pressurization.
VOLU-probe Pitot Airflow Measurement Traverse Probe
Insertion style probes that are:
- Cost-effective
- AMCA certified
- Time-tested, with installs over 40 years old.
- Pneumatically connect the high and low-pressure ports to a differential pressure transmitter
- Directly measuring the static pressure
- Very robust and reliable requiring little to no maintenance
Aluminum LO-flo Pitot Airflow Measurement Traverse Station
Air Monitor’s Aluminum LO-flo Pitot Traverse Station is a flow traverse station that combines honeycomb air straightener-equalizer with proven multi-point, self-averaging Pitot technology. The Aluminum LO-flo provides the means of measuring low air volumes of 35 to 1700 CFM in small diameter round ducts between 4″ – 8″, accurate within ±2% of actual airflow.
More About Airflow Measurement for Laboratory & Hood Exhaust Systems
Accurate, real-time airflow measurements are critical for ensuring clean air and safe environments for people working around toxic or flammable chemicals.
Many regulations, as well as good practice recommendations, exist for maintaining safe and comfortable laboratory and commercial hood exhaust ventilation. Kitchen exhaust hoods remove excess heat and moisture from the environment.
Exhaust ventilation rates (air changes per hour) are stipulated by state and local fire codes as well as national standards, including the NFPA 45 standard on fire protection for laboratories using chemicals, ANSI/AIHA/ASSE Z9.5 for laboratory ventilation systems, and ANSI/ASHRAE 110, for performance testing of laboratory hoods.
Air Monitor systems provide accurate measurement of the airflow rate in highly turbulent flow locations, including laboratory exhaust ducts and fume hoods without the need for upstream air
