What is Secondary Airflow?
Secondary, or bulk, airflow is the total combustion air delivered through the secondary air duct and wind boxes feeding the boiler. It determines the overall air‑to‑fuel ratio for the furnace, directly influencing boiler efficiency, safety, and emissions performance. Accurate bulk secondary airflow measurement provides operators with the visibility needed to control combustion across the full operating range, from minimum load to peak output. As plants cycle more frequently and run at lower loads, reliable secondary airflow data has become essential for stable, efficient boiler operation.
Why is Secondary Airflow Measurement Critical?
Reduced Fan Power Consumption
Lower operating costs by avoiding the excessive pressure losses associated with traditional high-loss devices.Improved Combustion Efficiency
With tighter controls of the air-to-fuel ratio over a wide turndown range, the overall heat rate can be optimized for better performance.Lower NOx and SOx Emissions
Get better compliance alignment with tightening environmental regulations and plant emissions targets.News & Innovation
