Sugar Refineries
Optimize production and reduce emissions in sugar manufacturing with accurate, reliable combustion air flow measurement devices from Air Monitor.Sugar refining processes use combustion control systems to minimize unburnt carbon and harmful emissions, and optimize combustion efficiency.
Measurement accuracy in limited straight runs
In sugar refineries, the larger duct sizes are typically associated with undergrate airflow, windbox airflow, and overfire airflow resulting in fewer diameters of straight run upstream and downstream of the measurement device. Air Monitor’s Combustion Air (CA) Station provides accurate measurement in spite of the resulting velocity profile stratification.Maintain accuracy over a broad velocity range
The broad operational range of combustion air flow in sugar processing varies from minimum load to fully operational. The fuel and air flow measurement technology must be accurate throughout this range.Automatically keep sensing ports clean
In the refining process, air contaminated with particulates can plug the sensing ports on a DP air flow measurement device or coat the RTDs on a thermal mass flow measurement system. Air Monitor’s high-pressure AUTO-purge III technology is a proven method to keep the sensing ports clean and maintain the accuracy of the measurement system.Auto Purge lll
The AUTO-purge III is designed for particulate-laden airflow applications such as sugar refining. In cases where continuous exposure to airborne particulates that might impair the accuracy of our Combustion Air Station (CA Station) or our VOLU-probe/SS array, a periodic purging with high-pressure high-volume air assists in clearing the sensing ports.
CA Station - Combustion Airflow Measurement Station
Air Monitor’s combustion air Station, with integral airflow processing cell and Fechheimer-Pitot measurement technology, can meet the challenging operating conditions in the sugar production process, such as limited straight runs and heavy particulate matter.
CAMS™ - Combustion Airflow Management System
CAMS™ provides a reliable and accurate means of measuring airflow in sugar production. Combined into a single-engineered package are the CAMM™ – Combustion Airflow Management Module and AUTO-purge III to protect against airborne dust and particulate matter so prevalent in RTOs and boilers used in the sugar industry.
VOLU-probe SS – Stainless Steel Traverse Probe with Transmitter
Ideal for particulate-laden applications, including sugar processing. It consists of multiple Pitot total and static pressure sensing ports positioned along the length of each probe to traverse the duct cross-section. They average the sensed pressures for velocity pressure measurement accurately within 2-3%.
More About Sugar Manufacturing
Refineries optimize the sugar refining process by using the remnants of the raw sugar cane to fuel a biomass boiler. These facilities use combustion airflow measurement systems to gain further efficiencies by optimizing the boilers.
Supplementary natural gas is also used as fuel during startup and to achieve full load on the boiler. Multiple levels of combustion air are used to complete the combustion process. This allows the boiler to operate at lower temperatures while achieving combustion efficiency.
Accurate measurement of combustion air flow and fuel flow at each location is the first step towards combustion control.
